Cooper Institute and ACIC collaborate in public policy workshop

A one-day workshop for non-profit organizations on influencing public policy will be held on Friday, June 6th, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Murphy's Community Centre, Richmond Street in Charlottetown.
The workshop will be participatory and interactive. It will include a presentation of a case study by the PEI Working Group for a Livable Income. A starting point for the workshop will be the participants' knowledge and experience of influencing public policy. In preparation, each participating organization is invited to send Cooper Institute (cooperinstitute@eastlink,ca) a short case study describing the issue and the action taken; identification of the sector/jurisdiction being influenced; .the message; the style used (e.g. formal submission, letter-writing, awareness-raising activities, public demonstration); how the message was received; any identifiable short or long term changes;your group's self-evaluation (would you change your content and process in any way?
The workshop will identify the steps involved in policy development and in successful actions aimed at influencing those who have the power to make positive changes.
Registration is $15 for members of ACIC and $40 for non-members. A small bursary is available to ACIC members outside of the Charlottetown area to assist with travel costs. Please call Cooper Institute (902)894-4573) or e-mail cooperinstitute@eastlink.ca to register by May 30.
